Clear Sight and Sound website

This was a design brought to me by Visual Effects Producer Nate Norbie which needed to be converted from his Photoshop file into a Drupal theme. This design asks a lot, including highlights and glows in corners, and lots of layered or transparent effects which tend to wreak havoc with one browser (which shall not be named). In some regards, we're seeing the kind of design that print artists often come up with, which can be very difficult to work with online.  Read more »

Mystic Lake Casino Hotel website

Building and launching a high-traffic website is no easy feat for a development team, let alone one guy working solo! I spent the better part of a year setting up a host, building dozens of content types, converting a very tough design into a workable front-end, and integrating complex workflows. Fortunately, this project was kept manageable thanks to Drupal, and ongoing support from the professionals at AcquiaRead more »

CONvergence decor: Mascot Statue

I was commissioned by CONvergence, the Midwest's largest science-fiction and fantasy convention, to build a statue of their mascot "Connie", a superhero robot. Connie is the brainchild of comics illustrator Christopher Jones, who has drawn hundreds, if not thousands, of variations of this character. This sculpture, however, was the first time she had been seen in three dimensions.  Read more »

CONvergence Main Stage CAD model

Before I even begin a production design, I spend lots of time studying the environment where that design will live. Often times, you'll see me scurrying about a production location with a tape measure and a notebook, taking dimensions of every last detail. Then, I reproduce that environment in a 3D CAD modeling program.  Read more »

Mohogo prank website

I was commissioned by film director Ryan Wood to build this prank website to coincide with the premiere of his film Fear of Girls 3, the latest installment of short films about the travails of being a role-playing gamer.  Read more »

Giza Plateau Ouija Table

This is a prop I built for the Egypt 1929 : 2008 New Year's Eve Party. The piece was used in the "seance room" as a decoration.

The table itself was customized to be inset with Plexiglass and made into an Egyptian-themed Ouija board. Beneath the glass is a back lit golden scale replica of the entire Giza Plateau, including 9 pyramids, 5 temples, boat pits, walls, causeways, the Sphinx, and the eastern cemetery.  Read more »

Guitar Wall - Secret Door!

My den is where I do drafting, video editing, programming, songwriting, and where I just hang out. To the casual observer, it's a just another finished basement with tacky wood paneling.

However, if you approach the music instruments hanging on the wall and pull on the neck of the guitar on the right you will have found the entrance to my bedroom!  Read more »

Guthrie Theater: A Mid-Summer Night's Dream

I'm rather proud to be part of the crew that helped create the set and effects for A Midsummer Night's Dream, now playing at The Guthrie Theater. There is a very comprehensive review of our scene shop's production on the Star Tribune website, including a time-lapse video of the set load-in week.  Read more »

National Film Challenge: Salvage

I was the Production Designer for a filmmaking team that competed in the National Film Challenge. Our pre-selected theme was "horror", and we drafted a script titled "Salvage" about a couple who gets in a car wreck in the middle of nowhere. Fortunately, there is a nearby junkyard, manned by a creepy attendant who is preoccupied with an attractive visitor.  Read more »

The Crow Bar

I enjoy bartending once in a while, and my cocktails had become so popular that I was frequently asked to serve at private parties. This required a proper bar setup, and a portable one, at that. I was unable to find a portable bar that would suit my needs, so I decided to engineer one myself. The Crow Bar as I called it, only catapulted the popularity of these parties and private events.  Read more »
