Several real estate websites by Home Marketing Network

After my work on projects at Digital River, I found a job doing web design for a company which catered exclusively to the real estate industry. Each site had a custom front-end, but Home Marketing Network's custom-built CMS made them all function very much the same.

This would be my third time building web sites for this market, and through the variety of clientele I learned that nearly all real estate agents have these amazing self-propelled egos. One of them even thought his image would look better if he staffed his office with attractive women and purported to be some kind of "doctor".

All of these realtors were looking to make a deal, get in on the action, and get another cut of the profit at every corner. Since one of the founding members of HMN was a realtor himself, it came as little surprise when he emptied the company's bank account one day, and was never to be heard from again.

We stayed afloat without problems for a few months, but when HMN began going under I fled the sinking ship. It's a shame, too. The employees were all nice folks, and I enjoyed my time there. But I seriously hope that some day the real estate industry evolves into more technical services and fewer slick salesmen with dollar signs in their eyes.
