Building and launching a high-traffic website is no easy feat for a development team, let alone one guy working solo! I spent the better part of a year setting up a host, building dozens of content types, converting a very tough design into a workable front-end, and integrating complex workflows. Fortunately, this project was kept manageable thanks to Drupal, and ongoing support from the professionals at Acquia.
Since I specialize in front-end development and theming, this project tested the limits of my Drupal knowledge, and encouraged me to learn more about the intricacies of Views, complex theme overrides, and node access.
This site is definitely a work-in-progress, as I continue to develop new features, improve usability, and integrate external data via custom modules. This is made even more challenging because traffic continues to increase, and testing is critical.
There are only so many hats I can wear, but I view this as an opportunity to learn more about Drupal beyond my specialty. I owe my sanity to the techs at Acquia, especially Brenda Boggs, who has provided dozens of helpful recommendations and recipes.
