The Laws of the Second Coming

I was commissioned by an author, Dr. Stephen Jones, to re-design the cover art for the second edition of one of his books entitled The Laws of the Second Coming available through Amazon. After reading the book (and the Bible), this is my depiction of the day the Christ returns to Earth.

Controversial? Perhaps. It's extremely rare to see artwork depicting New Jerusalem floating in the sky, six-winged angels riding flying discs, and the Lord leading an assult from the clouds. And it's even rarer to see Christ shown as the Lion of God, bearing a sword, which comes from his mouth, as if He somehow breathes it into existance. But this is exactly what scripture says, and I didn't want to hold anything back.

Here are some of the verses used for reference:

  • "Look! He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him." - Revelation 1:7
  • "I looked and there was a whirlwind coming from the north, a great cloud with fire flashing back and forth and brilliant light all around it. In the center of the fire, there was a gleam like amber." - Ezekiel 1:4
  • "The appearance of the wheels and their craftsmanship was like the gleam of beryl, and all four had the same form. Their appearance and craftsmanship was like a wheel within a wheel. When they moved, they went in any of the four directions, without pivoting as they moved. Their rims were large and frightening. Each of their four rims were full of eyes all around. So when the living creatures moved, the wheels moved beside them, and when the creatures rose from the earth, the wheels also rose. Wherever the Spirit wanted to go, the creatures went in the direction the Spirit was moving. The wheels rose alongside them, for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels. When the creatures moved, the wheels moved; when the creatures stood still, the wheels stood still; and when the creatures rose from the earth, the wheels rose alongside them, for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels." - Ezekiel 1:16-21
  • "One like the Son of Man, dressed in a long robe, and with a gold sash wrapped around His chest. His head and hair were white like wool—white as snow, His eyes like a fiery flame, His feet like fine bronze fired in a furnace, and His voice like the sound of cascading waters. In His right hand He had seven stars; from His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword; and His face was shining like the sun at midday." - Revelation 1:13-16
  • "Then I looked, and there was a white cloud, and One like the Son of Man was seated on the cloud, with a gold crown on His head and a sharp sword in His hand. Another angel came out of the sanctuary, crying out in a loud voice to the One who was seated on the cloud, "Use your sword and reap, for the time to reap has come, since the harvest of the earth is ripe." So the One seated on the cloud swung His sword over the earth, and the earth was harvested. Then another angel who also had a sharp sword came out of the sanctuary in heaven. Yet another angel, who had authority over fire, came from the altar, and he called with a loud voice to the one who had the sharp sword, "Use your sharp sword and gather the clusters of grapes from earth's vineyard, because its grapes have ripened." So the angel swung his sword toward earth and gathered the grapes from earth's vineyard, and he threw them into the great winepress of God's wrath. Then the press was trampled outside the city, and blood flowed out of the press up to the horses' bridles for about 180 miles." - Revelation 14:14-20
  • "Then I saw heaven opened, and there was a white horse! Its rider is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a fiery flame, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knows except Himself. He wore a robe stained with blood, and His name is called the Word of God. The armies that were in heaven followed Him on white horses, wearing pure white linen. From His mouth came a sharp sword, so that with it He might strike the nations. He will shepherd them with an iron scepter. He will also trample the winepress of the fierce anger of God, the Almighty. And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS" - Revelation 19:11-16
  • "The holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, arrayed with God's glory." - Revelation 21:10-11
  • "The city is laid out in a square; its length and width are the same. He measured the city with the rod at 12,000 stadia (1,400 miles). Its length, width, and height are equal." - Revelation 21:16
